Yay! That's good news! I first heard Zemfira's music when I first came to Armenia eight years ago. Her first album was our summer music, we played it all the time.
The more I listened to the songs, the better I understood the lyrics and that sealed the deal for me. Everybody who finds out that I like Zemfira so much not just because of the music but also because her lyrics are so good, is kind of surprised. I guess they didn't realize that I actually get what she's singing about even though my Russian is far from fluent.
Can't wait for her new album (!) although never get tired or bored of her old songs too, they always sound fresh, and everytime I listen to them I discover something new for myself.
That's so true, Myrthe, you start real appreciation of Zemfira when you get both music and words. Btw, you should have pretty good Russian skills to get her lyrics (and not only language, but something you get only when hang out with Russian or former Soviet people, so do not be modest on yourself :), they are just infectious and very close to my inside...
I initially really got to learn and understand the lyrics by printing them from her site and just singing along. ;-) Now my Russian is so much better that I get most of the lyrics by listening about 500 times to the same song (to the dislike of people around me!).
Hey :) I need some help `bout the lyrics: I`m from Bulgaria, so I should be able to easily understand russian with some effords... However, I can`t... So much for fraternity... Anyway, I speak french and english. If anyone could traslate "Malchik" and "Mi razbivaem sa" (shame! I can`t even do the transliteration!), I would be very very gratefull. Thanks all... If you can help me, please contact me. ICQ 240052073
:) That's a tough task. I think to understand Zemfira's songs fully, it has to be in Russian. I guess, you may wish to contact also forum at zemfira.ru, they may be able to help with translation more easily or may be English version exists somewhere, although, again, I tried couple of times to imagine how it will sound in English but it was just not right :)
Here is address of her forum(it is mainly in Russian, though):
