New Armenia: Revolution in the minds as PM Nikol Pashinyan stands up for trans weightlifting champion and against censorship

This was perhaps the most revolutionary speech that Armenia PM Nikol Pashinyan made so far. He stood up for human rights despite conservative hate groups’ backlash against (partial) state financing of the film re Armenian trans weightlifting champion, and offered his unwavering support to Mel. Inspirational and unprecedented for Armenia.

[Of course, there were some problematic wording and passages in his speech, but the key here is to consider the context and view it as a whole.]

There is a huge resistance to the Revolution and its ideals from old regime linked circles. Left without usual source of illegal earnings but still able to utilise their illegal wealth and connections in state institutions and media, they try to sabotage and discredit Armenia’s new leadership.

Since the Velvet Revolution, old regime forces manipulated public agenda by exploiting LGBT rights and putting them against ‘national values’. After months of hesitation and trying to avoid directly addressing any LGBT-related issues, (I hope) government understood that without firmly and unequivocally supporting human rights for all, they simply leave more space for old corrupt circles and their proxies to keep manipulating it more and more, shrinking the space for reforms.

This speech followed another important one against censorship. Finally, Armenia has a PM who publicly confronts calls for censorship/limiting freedom of expression in art, culture etc. I love how he brought up an example of Charents. He could have gone further by quoting Charents homoerotic poetry, but hey, may be next time…

Few days before, a similar statement was issued by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Arayik Harutyunyan. This is what I expect from state reps in New Armenia: firm no to censorship without any conditional language. I hope these words will be evidenced in practice.

«Նախարարն ընդգծեց՝ Հայաստանում այլևս չի լինելու սատանիզմի հիմքով, այլ մտացածին հիմքերով համերգներ չեղարկելը: Արվեստը լինելու է ազատ, որովհետև անկախ պետության կարևորագույն գրավականներից մեկն ազատ արվեստն է: Ոլորտի գերատեսչության ղեկավարի խոսքով՝ որոշ մարդիկ, ովքեր փորձում են քաղաքական դիվիդենտներ հավաքել, հետադիմության առաջամարտիկներ են: «Այո՛, մարդիկ կարող են որոշակի սկզբունքներից ելնելով՝ ասել, որ այս արժեքն իմը չէ: Մենք պետք է հարգանքով մոտենանք մեր այդ քաղաքացիներին, այդ խմբերին: Բայց արվեստում ցենզուրա սահմանելն անթույլատրելի է», - շեշտեց նա:

Consider this also within the context of proposed radical reforms in education which are key in changing people’s mentality. Here we are: real issues vs manipulations by old regime and connected with them ARF Dashnaktsutyun party.

As frequently (if not always) in modern Armenia history, Dashnaks are on the wrong side of it. They manipulated this occasion and started actions against the reformist minister but ultimately against the government and PM. They supported hatred, discrimination, homophobia and transphobia under the disguise of fight against educational reforms and for ‘national values’.

Bizarre things happening in Armenia: government (!) advocates against censorship in arts/culture, while some cultural reps argue for censorship; government wants to give universities greater independence re choosing courses, while some students & uni reps prefer having compulsory subjects…

And not to forget the shameful open letter by number of sport federations and sport personalities  against trans weightlifting champion Mel. It is utterly shameful and simply disgusting on so many levels. It illustrates how much hatred, homophobia and transphobia embedded in Armenia sport. To see so many united against ONE? Despicable. I never saw such unity by them for any good cause.

To remind, all those sport federations were (still are) affiliated with old regime reps and oligarchs, including BHK (‘Prosperous Armenia’) party head Gagik Tsarukyan (nicknamed ‘Dodi Gago’). They turned them into corrupt business enterprises to exert influence and keep sport under their control.

Ironically, newly appointed national ambassador for UNICEF Armenia - Olympic champion wrestler Artur Aleksanyan, is among the signatories. And until now, UNICEF Armenia office failed to act on this, instead promoting him further. Also, at least 3 of the signatories were charged over doping scandal. As they say: “գողն առաջինն է բղավում` բռնեք գողին” [the thief screams first - catch the thief]

The Velvet Revolution was an incredible event of historic significance for Armenia when people succeeded to change corrupt illegitimate regime. But in order for the Velvet Revolution to succeed, it needs to get transformed into a revolution in the minds.

Recent events culminated by Nikol Pashinyan’s speech effectively launched that very phase of the Revolution. Difficult road ahead but hopeful if successful - for all Armenia citizens, whether champion or not.

US embassy in Armenia marks IDAHOT with "It Gets Better" video message to young gay Armenians

Unfortunately, in Armenia it did not get better.

As PINK Armenia's annual LGBT rights report (AM) clearly illustrates, by all measures, 2015 was a year of regression for LGBT rights in Armenia as the newly adopted constitutional amendments re-defined marriage as a union solely between a man and a woman. Good to see that the US embassy in Yerevan posted a message on their FB page and YouTube video, in Armenian, by their press rep, who is gay, to convey "It Gets Better" message to young gay Armenians: "On the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, we remind gay youth that their lives will get better."

Aram + Ashot, Hovul + Ruben - from Armenian grammar book to inscriptions on Berlin wall

Couple of days ago I saw on Twitter this extract from the Armenian grammar book that teaches an example of combining two male names to create a new name, apparently: Aram + Ashot

I thought this was pretty hilarious on so many levels. This instantly reminded me of what I saw on Berlin wall recently: Hovul + Ruben (in Armenian).

Here we are. 'Gay propaganda' all the way from Yerevan to Berlin :))

Positive representation of gay people on Russian TV - Физика или Химия

Browsing YouTube, I accidentally came across this Russian TV series Физика или Химия [Physics or Chemistry]. It’s a Russian adaptation of original Spanish TV series Física o Química.

I watched only one episode - therefore I cannot reflect the whole series - but was struck by positive, away from cliché, representation of gay people on Russian TV. So many aspects of it were done so good, including the choice of characters, relationships with friends, coming out, parents’ reaction...



This could have been a textbook example of how media should portray LGBT people, especially in countries where homophobia is very high and there is big gap and lack in education on matters of sexuality and gender identity. And what is even more important, that the series are based in a high school setting in Moscow, raising important youth relevant issues.

Unfortunately, there was only 1 season produced and shown on Russian CTC TV channel in 2011, and, of course, considering the subsequent developments in Russia, where homophobia elevated to the state level by the so called gay propaganda laws and other examples of intolerance, you will unlikely to see anything similar in the near future.

It's a big shame that country with such a great intellectual and cultural potential to champion diversity, equality, acceptance within post-Soviet space and beyond, instead turned into an epitome of intolerance and homophobia.

Recently launched LGBTnews.am Armenian LGBT news website is a welcome addition to Armenian LGBT related online resources.

As of now, the website is available in Armenian language only, although I was told the English version may be coming soon.

It is nicely designed into rainbow colours and at time of launch contained sections on Armenia, world, interviews, reviews, culture and law. It is still work in progress, so if you have any feedback, you are welcome to leave it via website’s contact or FB page.

As Caucasus Equality News Network pointed out, “It is hoped that the website will be able to provide more accurate and reliable information on LGBT issues to Armenians. Currently very few Armenian news sources are friendly towards the LGBT community and Armenia has a strong culture of homophobic media and press. Another large problem very common in the Armenian media is bias towards LGBT individuals, as well as a lack of accurate information, sometimes purposefully incorrect information.”

Armenia ambassador Vahram Kazhoyan joins UN Free & Equal initiative making stance against homophobia

Big respects to Armenia ambassador Vahram Kazhoyan who publicly supported the United Nation’s Free & Equal initiative by taking stance against homophobia.

The message conveyed by the ambassador is simple and powerful, right to the point: “No to homophobia: Hate is not a family value!”.

He posted this picture made at the UN General Assembly on his FB page.

Vahram Kazhoyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, is currently heading the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. He is also Secretary General of the Armenian National Commission for UNESCO, and head of the Inter-Agency Working Group for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings. In past (2001-2009), he was Armenia’s ambassador to Greece (and 5 other countries in the region). He was also assigned to country’s permanent mission to the UN in NYC in 1994-1996.

He is known as a loyal diplomat for his country, devoted to human rights, who genuinely wants to make changes for the better. Most importantly, he is a role model, as a person who raised his children with values of equality and respect.

“No to homophobia: Hate is not a family value!”. Indeed, it is not. Love is.

We need more fathers, like Vahram, and more ambassadors, like him.

"Speak up!": PINK Armenia’s anti-bullying message to mark Day of Silence

On the occasion of Day of Silence, PINK Armenia hold a press conference where they outlined the problem of bullying in Armenia’s educational institutions in particular, starting with anti-LGBT bullying and with other instances of bullying too.

Says Nvard Margaryan of PINK Armenia: “In various countries of the world, starting from 1996, the third Friday of April is celebrated as The Day of Silence. The main purpose of The Day of Silence is to focus public attention on discrimination and degrading treatment against LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) people and other social groups throughout educational institutions. Moreover, this day is meant to eliminate and prevent such phenomena in an effort to establish safer educational institutions for everyone, regardless of students’ sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnic origins, religion, appearance, social and other personal characteristics”.
Then she presented cases and personal stories, which were collected by PINK's staff members.

Vladimir Shakhidjanyan: "Is it possible to understand homosexuality?"

Interesting way of "explaining" homosexuality and why gay people should be accepted as equals by society by prominent Russian psychologist of Armenian origin Vladimir Shakhidjanyan.

EU head says LGBT people in Armenia are “the most vulnerable” while hatemongers celebrate “victory”... over cancellation of gay rights film screening

Unfortunately, both venues - The Club and Yerevan Puppet Theatre, despite the initial resistance and “voice of reason” by the head of latter - eventually gave in to homophobic blackmail by hatemongers.

This was yet another reflection of steady regress in Armenia in relation to rights, tolerance and diversity, despite reported “progress” towards European integration.

The head of EU delegation in Armenia Traian Hristea said that the reaction towards gay rights -themed film screening indicates that LGBT people in Armenia are “the most vulnerable”. And this is despite Armenia formally joining European anti-homophobia agreements.

Both Germany ambassador and the EU head in Armenia reiterated their determination to hold public screenings of the film.

Here we are at it again. Season No... Another bout of hysteria from the same groups and individuals who attacked Diversity march (such as Hayazn union), who justified DIY bombing and so on and so on... Real life puppets ruled from certain known circles.

“Gay” is a new drug for them. They get high whenever they see or hear or read “gay”. Or shall I say try “gay”?! How X-rated :)

Now they got new ‘lifeline’ in the form of screening of gay rights -themed film based on Serbia events - The Parade (“Parada”). The screening is sponsored and organised by the Germany embassy and the EU office in Yerevan to facilitate awareness of human rights.

They plan a protest action (or plural) in front of the Germany embassy, will try to disrupt the screening of the film in the Club and at the Yerevan Puppet Theatre.

Funnily enough, quite a few of those joining the protest started inadvertently publicising the film and... actually watched (!) it. Even if they won’t accept it, watching such film alone will have an educational impact on them. Even if on a very-very deep subconscious level.

I should congratulate the embassy of Germany in Armenia and the EU office for success of the event that has not even started yet. Never before there was such an awareness of gay rights -themed film in Armenia.

And finally, a voice of reason from the director of Yerevan Puppet theatre Ruben Babayan. He doesn’t quite understand the fuss over the scheduled screening. He said that the Puppet theatre is not just for children (responding to laughable accusations that ‘gay propaganda’ film is being screened at ‘children theatre’), reminding that the Golden Apricot film festival and other screenings are being held there. I’d add some pretty hardcore metal music fest too. He then suggested that following the logic of protesters we should cancel films by Parajanov and Visconti or books by Nabokov too: “Do we want to turn this country into Iran or simply realise that it’s a matter of tolerance, feature film and art?” Voice of reason, indeed.

Bullying in Armenia

If only for the impact that inspired young people from Armenia & elsewhere to open up this [Born This Way Foundation Armenia] and similar pages and share their stories of bullying, bravery, individuality, coming to terms with who they are... Lady Gaga will be remembered with great respect.

CivilNetTV reports: "Bullying is just as common in Armenia as in any Western country where it is taken as a serious issue to be dealt with. Some kids in Armenia are even bullied by their teachers, and yet nobody talks about it."



Apart from above discussion (see video), Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation launch was marked in Armenia too, at PINK Armenia office.

"I am erasing my mask of silence": PINK Armenia marks Day of Silence

In various states of the world, starting from 1996, the third Friday of April is being commemorated as a day of silence. The foremost aim of the Day of Silence (DOS) is to draw attention on discrimination and bullying towards LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) individuals and other social groups in educational institutions. Moreover, this day is meant to eliminate and prevent such phenomena for the educational institutions to become a safer place for everyone, regardless of students’ and pupils’ sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, religion, appearance and any other social and personal characteristics.

We may witness phenomena as violence, discrimination, hate speech, mockery and abuse – behaviors that humiliate human dignity and violate basic human rights and freedoms – in almost all educational institutions of the Republic of Armenia.

On this occasion, on April 19, on the eve of the DOS, the head of Public Information and Need of Knowledge NGO Mamikon Hovsepian pointed out that “Pupils and students are treated this way both by their schoolmates and fellow students, and by educators (professionals) and other workers of the institution. Even though almost every one of us had been a witness to such trends, we regretfully assert that it is not regarded as a problem in our society and it is, furthermore, seen as an ordinary fact. Therefore, no steps are taken in terms of researching such problems and, more importantly, in terms of preventing and overcoming them, in increasing and developing tolerance.” He also added that: “We often witness such cases. A 17 years old young boy had to move from three schools in the process of getting his education as a result of discrimination and bullying as he was overweight and had more fragile (feminine) appearance. And fellow students of a girl, Yezidi by her ethnic origin, refused to sit next to her in the university.”

Social worker Nvard Margaryan has stated that “Discrimination and violence occurring in educational institutions affect both the development and quality of the life of youth, as well as create additional social problems such as social alienation, manifestation of aggressive behavior and complex of inferiority, even attempts of committing suicide and suicide.”

Speakers of the press conference have afterwards spoken about the effective mechanisms of prevention and the need of elaborating measures, in particular about the necessity of having competent professionals in educational institutions as well as about the education and protection of human rights.

At the end, the speakers have added that on April 20, on the “Day of Silence”, the members of staff will keep silence and will not provide any service.

Throughout April 1,000 London buses are carrying adverts from Stonewall to promote equal marriage, in the largest advertising campaign of its kind. The iconic ‘Some People Are Gay. Get Over It!’ adverts link to Stonewall’s equal marriage campaign website (www.stonewall.org.uk/marriage), which includes details of the charity’s response to the government’s consultation on the issue and explains how people can submit their own responses.

Highly recommend watching #госдеп2 Russian TV programme with Ksenia Sobchak [Ксения Собчак] re homophobic law in St Petersburg. My personal favourite - among guests of the programme - was sexologist Sergei Agarkov. He did not speak much, but whatever he said was spot on. Armenian sexologists & co, especially the ones who became media 'stars', as of lately, should take a note of their colleague's answers.

And here is what journalist Olga Bakushinskaya said re motives of such laws and stirring up hatred and homophobia in Russian (and not only!) society: "... потому что людьми которые полны ненависти легче управлять" [...because it’s easier to rule over /manipulate with people who are full of hatred]. Законодательное собрание Санкт-Петербурга в третьем чтении одобрило скандальные поправки в местный закон об административных правонарушениях, направленные «против пропаганды гомосексуализма и педофилии среди несовершеннолетних». Впервые со времен отмены существовавшей в советском Уголовном кодексе статьи за мужеложство (по ней были осуждены многие неугодные советской власти люди, в частности, замечательный режиссер и художник Сергей Параджанов) пока в отдельно взятом регионе государство пытается законодательно регулировать сексуальную жизнь граждан. То есть прямо вмешиваться в их частную жизнь без объективных на то оснований. При этом формулировки закона крайне расплывчаты и допускают расширительное толкование. И то, что в одном законе смешивается гомосексуализм и преследуемая уголовным законом педофилия, делает питерский законодательный опус еще более невнятным.

Этот запрет, учитывая роль Петербурга в политической жизни страны и раскладе сил во власти, может расцениваться как пробный шар перед возможным принятием аналогичного закона на федеральном уровне.

Но, даже если до федерального закона дело не дойдет, мы имеем дело с классической для России попыткой решить простым запретом крайне сложную проблему. Никакая сексуальная ориентация человека, что признано медициной и принято как базовая норма общественной морали в цивилизованном мире, не является болезнью или отклонением.

Конечно, главные традиционные религии России — православие и ислам — изначально резко отрицательно относятся к гомосексуализму. Но Россия светское государство и не может опираться в светских законах на религиозные доктрины и нормы. Кроме того, сексуальные отношения вообще глубоко интимная сфера, и государство такими запретами прямо вмешивается в частную жизнь людей.

Наконец, есть конкретные уголовные статьи, предусматривающие наказание за сексуальные преступления против несовершеннолетних независимо от сексуальной ориентации правонарушителя. И этого вполне достаточно, чтобы бороться с подобными преступлениями.
Напротив, юридический запрет «пропаганды» так называемых нетрадиционных сексуальных практик больше похож на характерные для нашего государства попытки запрещать инакомыслие.

Разумеется, пока в России нет никаких политических шансов требовать официальной регистрации однополых браков или, как это уже юридически разрешено в некоторых штатах США и ряде европейских стран, права однополым семьям усыновлять детей. Но пытаться регулировать законом, да еще запретительным, написанным с позиции определенных представлений о нравственности, то, что в принципе не регулируется таким образом, что имеет отношение к человеческой природе, просто дико. Фактически определенная сексуальная ориентация людей изначально объявляется преступной.

Более того, закон ставит в тяжелое положение именно тех, кого вроде хочет защитить, — детей. Ребенок, живущий в однополой семье, автоматически переходит на «нелегальное» положение. Ни его родители, ни его учителя, ни сам ребенок не могут даже затрагивать эту тему в разговоре с другими детьми, не рискуя попасть под действие закона. Толерантность к другим, не похожим на тебя цветом волос, языком, религией, образом жизни людям, взывать к которой так любят у нас в официальных речах, заканчивается там, где начинается питерский закон.

Еще большие сомнения он вызывает не только своим «концептуальным» варварством, но и правоприменительной практикой. В России любой закон, содержащий запретительные меры, обычно не выполняется, а «перевыполняется».
И закон о запрете пропаганды гомосексуализма среди несовершеннолетних может стать еще одной дубиной для борьбы с инакомыслием, особенно учитывая, что ЛГБТ-сообщество традиционно граждански активно и критически настроено по отношению к власти (в основном потому, что, по сути, загнано на нелегальное положение исторически культивируемой властью гомофобией).

И блестящий пример того, как этот закон может быть применен на практике, немедленно предложил его автор, депутат Виталий Милонов. Он заявил о намерении обратиться к прокурору Петербурга с требованием привлечь к ответственности группу Rammstein, как только проект будет подписан губернатором.

Нет сомнений, что петербургский закон окажется популярным и в самом городе, и среди россиян в целом. Но государство не должно поощрять законами низменные инстинкты консервативной толпы: в этом смысле агрессивная гомофобия куда более опасна, в том числе и для несовершеннолетних, чем так называемая пропаганда гомосексуализма.

In an interview with News.am (AM), Marine Margaryan, Project Coordinator at PINK Armenia, sums up the main headlines of their annual report on LGBT situation in Armenia (full report in English - here).

According to Marine, in 2011 more than 200 LGBT people, mainly men, used services provided by PINK Armenia, including legal advice in case of violence and hate crimes.

As an example of unreported hate crimes in Armenia, Marine mentioned recent case of physical and psychological abuse at one of Yerevan bars, when a customer recognised and approached one gay guy there, then spit next to him and broke his nose. However, fearing disclosure and interrogation, the victim of hate crime refused to report the case to the police.

«Փինք Արմենիա» ՀԿ-ի ծրագրի համակարգող Մարինե Մարգարյանը, բերելով բռնության դեպքերից մեկի օրինակը, նշեց, որ վերջերս, երբ գեյ տղան բարում է եղել, հաճախորդներից մեկը, ով իմացել է, որ նա գեյ է, մոտեցել է նրան, կողքը թքել ու հարվածելով կոտրել քիթը: Գեյ երիտասարդը ելնելով նրանից, որ ոստիկանությունում այդ ամենը պետք է բացատրեր եւ մանրամասն նկարագրեր, չի դիմել ոստիկանություն:

Հարցին, թե ավելի շատ տղամարդի՞կ, թե՞ կանայք են բռնության ենթարկվում, Մարինե Մարգարյանը պատասխանեց. «Մեզ ավելի շատ դիմում են տղամարդիկ բռնության դեպքերով: Այսպես ասեմ. մեզ դիմում են տարբեր հարցերով, թե սեռական առողջության հիմնախնդիրներով, թե պահպանակներ ստանալու, թե իրավաբանական խորհրդատվություն ստանալու համար: Իսկ առհասարակ դիմումների թիվը ինչպես նշեցի մոտավորապես 200-ից ավելի է 2011թ-ի ընթացքում»:

Ոստիկանության կողմից նույնասեռական և տրասվիստիտ անձանց իրավունքների խախտումները հիմնականում տեղի են ունենում այգում, որտեղ հավաքվում են նույնասեռական և տրանսվիստիտ մարդիկ: Ոստիկանությունը պարեկային ծառայություն է կատարում այգու տարածքում: Անցորդների կողմից նույնասեռական կամ տրանսվեստիտ անձանց բռնության ենթարկելու դեպքում ոստիկանությունը չի ձեռնարկում որևէ գործողություն այն դադարեցնելու և բռնություն կիրառողին պատասխանատվության համար: Նույնասեռական և տրասվեստիտ անձինք, որոնք սովորաբար գնում են այդ այգի, նշել են, որ ոստիկանությունում ֆիքսել են իրենց հեռախոսահամարները, և երբ իրենք զանգահարում են բռնության կամ ծեծի դեպքում, ոստիկանությունը չի պատասխանում: Կան գրանցված դեպքեր, երբ ոստիկանները անհանգստացնում են այգում գտնվող նույնասեռականներին և տրանսվեստիտներին: Ոստիկանությունը նրանց պրովոկացիայի է ենթարկում և ապա բռնության:

Դեպք
Քաղաքացու հագուստով մի ոստիկան ոստիկանական մեքենայով մոտեցել է այգու մոտ կանգնած մի տրանսվեստիտ անձնավորության և սկսել հայհոյել և հարցնել, թե ինչ էր անում նա այնտեղ` օգտագործելով վիրավորական և նվաստացուցիչ խոսքեր: Ոստիկանը դուրս է եկել մեքենայից և սկսել ծեծել նրան: Ապա նա վերադարձել է իր մեքենան և հեռացել: Զոհը գնացել է ոստիկանական բաժանմունք` բողոք ներկայացնելու, սակայն ոստիկանությունում հրաժարվել են ընդունել իր բողոքը: Թեև տուժողին տրամադրվել է իրավաբանական ծառայություն ՀԿ-ի կողմից, նա հրաժարվեց շարունակել գործը, քանի որ վախենում էր ոստիկանության գործողություններից, որոնք կարող էին նախաձեռնվել հետագայում:

Ոստիկանությունը այգում հետևում է նույնասեռական և տրասվեստիտներին, և երբ տեսնում են նրանց տղամարդու հետ, սպառնում են այդ անձին, որ եթե իրենց գումար չտա, ապա կզանգեն նրա բարեկամներին, կայցելեն հարևաններին և բոլորին կասեն, որ նա այգում է եղել նույնասեռականի կամ տրանսվեստիտի հետ: Չնայած տուժողները գիտակցում են, որ ոստիկանները ոտնահարում են իրենց իրավունքները` նրանք վախենում են բողոքարկեն, քանի որ չունեն անվտանգության երաշխիքներ: Բացի այդ, եղել է նաև դեպք, երբ տրանսվեստիտը բողոք է ներկայացրել ընդդեմ ոստիկանի, և ոստիկանը նրան գումար է առաջարկել իր բողոքը ետ վերցնելու համար: Չնայած, որ տուժողը չի վերցրել գումարը, նա հետ է վերցրել իր բողոքը կրկին անվտանգության երաշխիքներ չունենալու պատճառով:

Բացի վերոնշյալ դեպքերից, կան նաև դեպքեր, երբ առանց որևէ իրավաբանական հիմնավորման նույնասեռական կամ տրանսվեստիտ անձանց տարել են ոստիկանական բաժանմունք: Այնտեղ նրանց պահում են մի քանի ժամ, և բաց են թողնում այն ժամանակ, երբ տուժողները նրանց կաշառք են տալիս: Սովորաբար ոստիկանության այս գործողությունները ուղեկցվում են բանավոր և ֆիզիկական
բռնությամբ: Տեղեկություններ չկան, թե արդյոք ոստիկանության այդ գործողությունները հավանություն են ստացել բարձրաստիճան պաշտոնյաների կողմից, թե նրանք դա անում են սեփական նախաձեռնությամբ: Իրենց իրավունքների պաշտպանության նպատակով ՀԿ-ն գրանցում է մարդու իրավունքների ոտնահարման
այսպիսի դեպքերը և փորձում է կանխել դրանք ջատագովության միջոցով, քանի որ իրավունքների պաշտպանությունը հնարավոր չէ իրականացնել դատական կարգով` այս պահին տուժողների կողմից պաշտոնական դիմումների բացակայության պատճառով:

2011թ.-ի դեկտեմբերին ոստիկանությունը 10 տրանսվեստիտների բերման է ենթարկել մաշկային և վեներական հիվանդությունների դիսպանսեր` սեռական ճանապարհով փոխանցվող վարակների նկատմամբ հարկադիր ստուգման: Ստուգումից հետո նրանցից 3-ը ազատ են արձակվել, իսկ մյուսները բերման են ենթարկվել ոստիկանական բաժանմունք, որտեղ նրանք պահվել են մինչև առավոտ: Ոստիկանները տուժողներին ներկայացրել են, որ կատարում են վերադաս մարմիններից ստացված հրամանն, այն է` ստիպեն նույնասեռական և տրանսվեստիտ անձանց լքել այգին և չհավաքվել այտեղ, և որ սա նպատակին հասնելու առաջին քայլն էր: Չնայած, որ տուժողները չհամաձայնեցին բողոք ներկայացնել` ՀԿ-ն դիմում է ուղարկել Մարդու իրավունքների պաշտպանի գրասենյակ և Գլխավոր դատախազություն: Երկու
հաստատությունների պատասխանն այն էր, որ նրանք դեպքը ուղղորդել են Հայաստանի Հանրապետության ոստիկանություն: Տվյալ դեպքը դեռ ընթացքի մեջ է:

Այս դեպքը հիմք ծառայեց ԶԼՄ-ների տարածած այն տեղեկատվությանը, որ Երևան քաղաքի նոր քաղաքապետ Տարոն Մարգարյանը որոշոլ է "մաքրել այգին և վերադարձնել այն <<նորմալ>> քաղաքացիներին: Չնայած, որ քաղաքապետի կողմից նման պաշտոնական հայտարարություն չի արվել` քաղաքապետարանի կողմից այլ տեղեկատվություն չի տրամադրվել, որը կհաստատեր կամ կմերժեր այն, և կներկայացներ քաղաքապետի իրական դիրքորոշումն այս հարցի շուրջ: Քաղաքապետարանը հրաժարվում է լրագրողներին տալ ցանկացած մեկնաբանություն: Բացի այդ ՀՀ ոստիկանության պետ Վովա Գասպարյանը հարցազրույց է տվել, որի ժամանակ լրագրողների այն հարցին, թե ինչ է նա անելու այգում հավաքվող նույնասեռական և տրանսվեստիտ անձանց հետ, նա պատասխանել է, որ դեռ չի անրադարձել, բայց կանրադառնա այդ հարցին և ասել է լրագրողներին, որ ինքն աջակցում է այս մարդկանց դեմ նրանց պայքարին:

ԶԼՄ-ներ

ԶԼՄ-ների ներկայացուցիչները մեծ հետաքրքություն ունեն ԼԳԲՏ համայնքի նկատմամբ: Ցավոք, շատ դեպքերում ԼԳԲՏ հիմնահարցերի վերաբերյալ կողմնակալ լուսաբանումները` հիմնված լրագրողների նախապաշարմունքների և կարծրատիպերի վրա, չունեն գիտական հիմք և ձևակերպված են սկանդալային ոճով: ԼԳԲՏ մարդկանց հիմնահարցերը շոշափվում են բոլոր տեսակի ԶԼՄ-ների կողմից: Շատ հաճախ այս թեման իր լուսաբանումն է գտնում էլեկտրոնային լրատվամիջոցներում:

Ընդհանուր առմամբ, զանգվածային լրատվամիջոցներում ԼԳԲՏ համայնքին վերաբերող հարցերը լուսաբանվում են վիրավորական կերպով, ինչը հաստատում է գոյություն ունեցող կարծրատիպերն ու նախապաշարմունքները ԼԳԲՏ համայնքի նկատմամբ: Տրամադրված տեղեկատվությունը հիմնված չէ փաստերի վրա, չունի ապացույցներ և շատ հաճախ կարող է լինել ասեկոսների և ապատեղեկացվածության արդյունք:

Բացի այդ, ԼԳԲՏ մարդկանց, սեռական կողմնորոշման, գենդերային ինքնության մասին ոչ հուսալի և սուբյեկտիվ տեղեկատվության տարածումը հոդվածների, հեռարձակումների, հեռուստատեսային ծրագրերի միջոցով ստորացնում են ԼԳԲՏ մարդկանց և նպատակ ունեն ագրեսիա տարածել նրանց նկատմամբ:

Մեծամասամբ ԼԳԲՏ անձանց հիմնահարցերը ներկայացված են որպես մի երևույթ, որը դեմ է հայկական ավանդույթներին, արժեքներին, և չի կարող ունենալ իր տեղը հասարակության մեջ: Ավելին, շատ հաճախ այն դիտարկվում է ազգային անվտանգության շրջանակներում:

Այն դեպքում, երբ լուսաբանվում են մանկապղծության և սեռական բռնությունների հետ կապված հարցեր, լրագրողները փորձում են կապել դրանք նույնասեռականության և ԼԳԲՏ մարդկանց հետ և մեղադրել նրանց նման տեսակի գործողությունների մեջ: ԶԼՄ-ները ներկայացնում են ԼԳԲՏ մարդկանց որպես մանկապիղծներ և մեղադրում են նրանց սեռական բռնության մեջ:

Մի շարք դեպքերում հարցազրույց վերցնելիս լրագրողները չեն պահպանել ԼԳԲՏ մարդկանց գաղտնիությունը, և անտեսել են այդ անձի ձայնը փոխելու և դեմքը ցույց չտալու մասին նախնական պայմանավորվածությունը: Այս դեպքերից ոչ մեկում լրագրողները չեն պատժվել, քանի որ այդ մարդիկ վախենում էին հրապարակայնությունից:

Համեմատած այլ տեսակի ԶԼՄ-ների հետ, հեռուստատեսությունը ամենահոմոֆոբն է: ԼԳԲՏ մարդկանց հետ կապված բոլոր հեռարձակումները տարածում են ատելության կոչեր և խթանում են նրանց նկատմամբ ատելության ոճիրների իրագործումը:
