Helsinki Association Armenia human rights report 2012: LGBT rights

Helsinki Association in Armenia released its annual Human Rights Report 2012. Perhaps, for the first time, discrimination against LGBT people is covered in a detailed, comprehensive way in a separate “LGBT chapter“. This chapter is prepared by PINK Armenia.

Sub-chapters detail discrimination in various fields, such as education, employment, health care, army, church, police, media and so on.

In a series of posts, Unzipped: Gay Armenia is presenting extracts from the ‘LGBT rights’ chapter divided into relevant sub-chapters, as per described fields. Posts are presented in Armenian, as in original report. If or when English version becomes available, it will be posted too.

Overall, this report depicts a very bleak picture of widespread discrimination against LGBT people in all the fields of life. A very shameful picture for Armenia that needs to be tackled urgently, consistently and comprehensively.

[...] ԼԳԲՏ իրավունքների պաշտպանության հիմնական դժվարությունը մնում է այն փաստը, որ տուժողները վախենում են բողոք ներկայացնելուց և իրենց գործերի հրապարակայնացման հնարավորությունից: Այսպիսով, ջատագովությունը մնում է ԼԳԲՏ իրավունքների պաշտպանության հիմնական ռազմավարությունը: ԶԼՄ - ների և հասարակության համար սեռական կողմնորոշման և գենդերային ինքնության մասին իրազեկության բարձրացման անհրաժեշտություն կա: Անհրաժեշտ են ինստիտուցիոնալ փոփոխություններ` հասարակական կյանքի տարբեր ոլորտներում ԼԳԲՏ իրավունքների պաշտպանության իրագործմանը ուղղված: Այս առումով, կան նախաձեռնություններ և ջանքեր են գործադրվում քաղաքացիական հասարակության կազմակերպությունների կողմից, որոնք ունեն տեղական եւ միջազգային կազմակերպությունների աջակցությունը: Իրականացվում են բազմաոլորտ աշխատանքներ` ուղղված ԼԳԲՏ իրավունքների պաշտպանության հիմնահարցերին կառավարության ուշադրությանը սևեռելուն:
