Here is what you may spot in the drawer of a 5-star hotel in Washington, D.C. This may be pretty “routine” here, but for me it was pretty shocking (in a laughing kind of way) to spot “Holy Bible” and “The Book Of Mormon” there. Bizarre! Do not say I did not warn you :)
Let me take a guess--it's a Marriott? The founder of Marriott Hotels was a true-blue Mormon:

Marriott was born at Marriott Settlement near Ogden, Utah, and was raised on his father's farm. His father gave him considerable responsibility at an early age: he was sent to San Francisco on his own with 3,000 sheep in a railcar at the age of 14.
(Things you don't do in Great Britain...)
Well done, Ani! Yes, it's a Marriott hotel :) Thanks to you now I understand the bizarre spotting of Mormon's book next to the bible :)
ReplyDeleteYes, there's almost always a Bible 'placed by the Gideons', an American charity. The Mormon text is less common, but as the others have said the explanation is it was a Marriott hotel. In Japan there is usually a Buddhist text too. I doubt if anyone ever reads these books - they always look completely 'new' when ever I've taken them out to have a brief look.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm relieved to be right, because I'd hate to think there was more than one chain with the Book of Mormon in their drawers--maybe they all would have been required to have them if Mitt Romney had become president...
ReplyDeleteBTW, if you are in Washington and travel the north section of the beltway, you can see the highly impressive and pretty scary Mormon church (actually you can't avoid seeing it!)
